Staying Healthy: Bali’s Curated Wellness Programmes
Be it getting back into shape, digital detoxing or some old-fashioned peace and quiet, here in Bali you can easily combine wellness and leisure.
Sprint up and down the steps carved into a cliff poised over crashing waves, and work up a sweat on the aptly named Impossibles Beach below. At Anantara Uluwatu, the beautiful outdoors is your gym, with primal health coach Rob Hourmont here to train and push you to your limits. The philosophy of primal health harks back to the hunter-gatherer lifestyle. In contrast to our current way of living – mostly sedentary with possibly an hour at the gym – hunter-gatherers engaged in short bursts of activity followed by periods of rest throughout the day.
Health coach Rob Hourmont was a British Olympic skier with a promising future until an injury ended his career. On his road back to health – both mental and physical – he experimented with a number of regimens, finally coming across primal health and never looking back. Rob teaches you the importance of workxing out efficiently – less is most definitely more – without putting stress on your heart or joints. Learn to enjoy exercise again, biking through rainforest, waterskiing across a lagoon, or mastering the agility, endurance, power and poise of Muay Thai kickboxing in the resort’s ring. Rob’s three-day Optimal Primal Fitness Course, offered exclusively at Anantara Uluwatu, introduces you to the specifics of a balanced hunter-gatherer diet and exercise forms. Train daily in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, with cardio exercises, weights and sprinting.

Four Seasons Sayan
Up in serene setting of Sayan, Four Seasons Sayan has curated a one of a kind wellness programme that is sure to make you feel recharged. A master of peace, who is committed to sharing ways to love and connect, Fera the Four Seasons Sayan’s resident Wellness Mentor and former Buddhist nun of 7 years, was inspired to create the resort’s newest guest experience at The Sacred River Spa after giving birth to her first child. She discovered that singing, rocking and sweet speech was all it took to soothe her infant and knew that as adults we had forgotten this sweetness and many have issues with sleep or letting go. The perfect place to create this physical and auditory cocoon was in the resort’s Dharma Shanti Yoga Bale, a unique bamboo structure in the rice fields. Suspended in silk hammocks, Fera rocks and soothes, sings and sounds the story of Gautama Buddha. It’s extraordinary to experience and most guests are reborn after this simple and inspirational sacred nap. It’s like a return to the womb.
