PT Sari Coffee Indonesia, the official licensed operator of Starbucks Indonesia, announces that all stores in Bali will be using new ‘greener’ material that are better for the environment. The much discussed single use plastic straw will be replaced with a durable paper straw, whilst the plastic stirrer will be now made from wood, plus additionally the plastic cups used for cold and iced drinks will now use cups made from post-consumer recycled PET based components. Starbucks Indonesia have long been a proponent in better packaging, with their signature paper bag always a feature since launching in 2002. Other great initiatives include the Bring Your Own Tumbler (BYOT) programme which has and is continuously highlighted on every 22nd of the month, a programme that encourages customers to use less paper cups.
Bali is also set to be the trial market for the 100% recycled waste coffee ground, through the “Grounds for Hope” programme, where all the waste coffee grounds will be collected and delivered to an outside party that will recycle them into compost, collaborating with Catalyze Communications and Bali Compost Crafters.
