Makepung is one of the unique traditions stemmed from the agrarian life scene of the island, and is a widely enjoyed event in the regency of Jembrana, West Bali. The widely known race of the water buffalos is a colourful spectacle and the race course is about 2 kilometres. Here, the farmers and their buffalos come to race for honour, pride and the trophy, rather than for money. This November 18, the Makepung race will be the biggest for racers who will compete for the prestigious Jembrana Cup. If you’re on the island during this time, this event should be put high on your must-see list. The race normally takes place at around 7am, and though the location of the race is till to be confirmed, you can ask around or follow the many big trucks transporting the bulls to the location.
