Sapphire, as this month’s birthstone, exists in a myriad of colours but it’s always been most strongly associated with the colour blue. The Ancient Persians in fact believed that the Earth rested on a giant blue sapphire and it was the reflection of this that coloured the sky. One of the most famous pieces of sapphire jewellery in existence is the 12 carat Ceylon sapphire engagement ring, originally belonging to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and now the Duchess of Cambridge. Perhaps one of the reasons why sapphire is currently the most popular gemstone for engagement rings. This month we highlight the Sapphire Bloom Ring set in 18 carats of white gold, surrounded with a glittering frame of white diamonds. Also in 18 carats of white gold is the punchy Pink Sapphire Party Ring. Featuring three oval-cut sapphires surrounded by glittering diamonds, the Sapphire Carmen Ring is set in 18 carats of yellow gold.
