The funny thing about the human body is that it may or may not tell you when something is wrong with it. We twist an ankle, “Oww”, we know it immediately, we have a cold “Aachoo” easy to spot. But for something more serious that you really want and need some warning on,  nothing ! Heart attack, stroke, diabetes, the big C, the likelihood is you just won’t see it coming. When you’re on your back, in the ICU, tubes  in every cavity,

that is often your first warning. Why is that?

But even worse than that, after diagnosis for a serious illness, a very large percentage of people don’t complete the treatment their doctor recommends, they don’t take all their medicine and don’t follow their doctor’s advice. According to famed clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, we are more likely to ensure our pets are treated to completion than ourselves. Amazing, but statistically proven.  We can be very stupid.

The question is: why ? His theory is that we don’t value ourselves as much as we value others (looking after aged parents or even the pet dog are the perfect examples). We instinctively feel we are “not worth it”, and so don’t follow the treatment with diligence. Do you feel that? I certainly hope not!

Anyway this is the time, on holiday when you can combine relaxing, getting away from everyday cares and worries, with getting healthier! So go to the spa, the yoga lesson, the meditation  session. If you don’t, maybe it will be your turn to head for treatment you don’t expect and don’t deserve!

Stay well and happy.
