Do you have a personal goal? Or if you own or influence a company or organisation, a corporate goal? Grundfos the Norwegian (but Global) Pump manufacturer has one:
“To deliver the world to the next generation in a better state than we inherited it”
Pretty simple isn’t it? And you honestly know the consequences of your actions, as you plan them, as you make them a reality. You know very well if you are putting profit above people and the planet, or putting people and the planet above profit. It’s okay if you have never thought of this before, but now you have heard this simple phrase you cannot escape.
The photos (above) are pretty simple to interpret too: on the right is the east ridge of Campuhan, on the left is the west ridge. One is undisturbed and about as beautiful as you can get – anywhere. One is being “developed” in an appalling, horrendous way, spoiling forever the beauty of somewhere God gave us to look after and pass onto our children. Sorry kids you get a mess. We are passing you profit, not planet, and even that isn’t guaranteed because increasingly people are not supporting unsustainable businesses, and one’s which have deliberately destroyed nature.
This is just one of a thousand examples of how we will leave Bali, Indonesia – and the world if we don’t honestly try to leave the world in a better condition than we were given it. Stop now before it’s too late.
