Hyatt of Sanur Kite Festival 2024: ‘Embracing the Elements’
It’s kite season in Bali and to celebrate two iconic Sanur properties are adding a twist to this local pastime! On Wednesday, 28 August 2024, don’t miss the ‘Hyatt of Sanur Kite Festival’, taking place in front of the beautiful beachfront of Hyatt Regency Bali, hosted along with sister property Andaz Bali. Watch as bespoke kite creations are put to the test, and even judged by a panel of juries, during this fun community session.
Kites are more than just a children’s hobby in Bali, with folklore as well as deities related to the winds and elements making it a culturally-significant activity. What’s more, they are very much part of community building, with the youth of the banjar (neighbourhood groups) banding together to get these giant soaring creations off the ground – they can certainly take a whole group working together. In their design and assembly, more community work is required, but it’s all fun and games for the Balinese.
Channeling this same spirit of camaraderie and creativity, the two Hyatt of Sanur resorts have put their associates up to a special challenge! Teams of associates have spent the last month designing, constructing, and testing their kites, which will be showcased during the event with a special theme; “ Embracing the elements”. This theme has set a very difficult criteria for the kite-making, as all designs must only use dry leaves are their primary component of each kite!
Everyone is welcome to join the fun and watch as the kites take their inaugural public flights! Head over to the Hyatt Regency Bali beachfront from 9am to 1pm to see some incredibly creative kites, and (hopefully) see them soar to the skies. This event is free of charge and will include the following agenda:
Parade: The festival will begin with a lively parade from both resorts to the main festival area on the beach. Each of the five participating teams will present a welcome dance, highlighting their unique cultural expressions and setting the stage for a day of fun and celebration.
Kite contest and dance performance: In alignment with efforts to promote sustainability, participants are encouraged to create their kites using recyclable materials. Five teams, consisting of associates from departments such as Culinary, F&B, Front Office, Rooms, Recreation, Housekeeping, and Back of the House, will compete, showcasing kites that carry distinct meanings and stories.
Judging and Awards: Esteemed Balinese kite expert Pak Kadek Armika will serve as a guest judge alongside the management team and one special guest from each resort, evaluating the kites based on the originality of their concepts, the stories behind their designs, and their flight performance and stability.
Hyatt of Sanur Kite Festival is not only a tribute to traditional Balinese kite flying but also a testament to the innovative spirit and teamwork of the associates from Hyatt Regency Bali and Andaz Bali. The event highlights the resorts’ dedication to fostering a sense of togetherness while embracing sustainability.
