The whole country has been inundated with rain over the last two months and Bali is no exception, which is not fun for visitors who come expecting to sit on the beach or by the pool for at least part of their holiday. This is when the hotels with good facilities and good guest programs come into their own, and those who have just sold a tiny room and have nothing to offer, fail. Sadly these low cost hotels are what has been overbuilt (and are still being built now) meaning that their poor, value-driven guests have nowhere to go in the rain since most are located in remote locations to reduce cost.

At most of the top hotels there are good tour desks which allow you to select sightseeing programs which include indoor activities, like museums and palaces, but even visiting temples and parks will be okay with the right gear.
Kid’s activities in the hotels will be well catered for, although teens are probably going to miss out and rely more on the internet, which is a pity when this island has so much to offer in natural and cultural beauty. Maybe their time can be spent researching the artistic, cultural and heritage sites to go and see? Or maybe they could look into the main artists and artisans on the island?

I am no fan of malls, as my readers in Jakarta know all too well – where there is now an astonishing 73 malls! However, they are quite useful when the skies open. But remember they are there to get you to spend money on goods and services, not to look after you!

For me in the rain, there is nothing better than a good book, whether online or on good old paper, so why not take this chance to read that novel you have always promised yourself that you would finish, (though there are some very famous novels that are impossible to finish)! So have a great breakfast, settle down and read. Then head off to explore the museums, do some shopping and select a marvelous place for dinner. The day will be as good, or better, than any other.

Relax, you’re in Bali, and not even a little rain should spoil a great holiday.!
