RAFTING & KAYAKING

White water rafting in Bali is safe, fun and a breathtaking experience to be enjoyed by all. With the renowned Bali Adventure Tours and its Ayung River rafting, the action starts when you launch into a 9.6km river stretch, navigating through 33 class II and III rapids set to a backdrop of unspoiled rainforest, towering gorges and magnificent rice paddy terraces.

Bear in mind that white water rafting tours in Bali are not all the same; Bali’s rivers are situated in various parts of the island and you may be required to spend up to 5 hours on return bus trips. The Ayung River, however, is conveniently located only one hour’s drive from most tourist centres.  All rivers in Bali are class II to III but may rise to class IV during wet season (November – March). Professionally trained and experienced guides pilot safety-equipped and Avon rafts through the best river runs, dramatic drops and spectacular waterfalls to make your Bali rafting ride a fun and awesome experience.

You can also ride the rapids of Ayung River in a 2-seater kayak, with a guide to accompany you, in what’s billed as the white water kayaking attack. If you have previous experience you’ll probably want to explore the nooks and crevices of the river yourself. The rapid grades might increase to 4 during rainy season and provide a bigger challenge for you to paddle through.

In case you want to take it easy, there are many stops along the way to take a breather. Residents of nearby villages have erected make-shift food stalls that offer local treats and beverages. All in all, the white water adventure on Ayung River offers a fine mixture of stimulating and relaxing fun for all ages.

REEF CRUISING

This is a full day of interesting activities for you and your family. The Bali Hai Cruises’ luxury catamaran departs Benoa harbour at 9.15am everyday to cruise from the Bali mainland to Nusa Lembongan, where it moors alongside a purpose-built pontoon packed with activities for the whole family. During this day trip, you can see Lembongan Island’s exotic marine life and colourful corals from the comfort of Bali Hai’s semi-submersible coral viewer, by going snorkeling in beautiful Lembongan Bay, or even by trying scuba diving for the first time with an experienced team of PADI diving instructors.

Other cruise activities include unlimited banana boat rides, a cultural tour of Lembongan Island, or an exhilarating ride down a 35-metre waterslide. And when you’ve finally worked up an appetite, feast on a delicious buffet served in air-conditioned comfort aboard Bali Hai II.

The Bali Hai II departs from Nusa Lembongan Island at around 3.15pm and slowly cruises back to mainland Bali as you relax and enjoy the view across the ocean. If you are not ready to go home, why not join the Bali Hai’s Aristocat sunset cruise?

WATER SPORTS

Nusa Dua beach and coast lend themselves to a range of water sports for all age groups. We highly recommend you choose one of the newest and most professional sports centres:

Companies such as Bali Jet Set Dive and Marine Sports (“JSM”) can customize special programs and safaris for families. They offer both motorized and non-motorized water sports such as windsurfing, kite surfing and special eco-friendly mangrove kayak tours. Little kids as young as 4 years old can try water-skiing. They have many activities to choose from: parasailing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, scuba diving, banana boat riding, and sky ski hydrofoil. Always a winner with parents and children!

JSM’s modern 2,000 square metre facility includes a private beach for swimming, a swimming pool and a second story outdoor dive school overlooking the ocean. It is the perfect place for a family day out.  They have all the special gear for kids to ensure that the whole family’s water sports experience will be fun, exciting and safe.

SNORKELING

Bali is blessed with rich marine biodiversity in many locations around the island. And there’s no better way to enjoy this than by snorkeling. Anybody with sufficient swimming skill can do this. Hold your breath then dive in as deep as you can where a whole different world awaits you. Or at a rather shallow spot you can just float along the surface to enjoy the underwater scenery. All that is needed for this is a mask, a snorkel, and maybe, a pair of fins. For a better experience opt for organized trips to the best spots for snorkeling.

Many dive and general water sports operators provide snorkeling packages that will suit any needs. More often than not they are bundled with other water sports activities at certain locations. This is a really convenient option as the operators will set up everything, from hotel pick-up to serving lunch. But if you happen to stay at places like Padang Bai or Amed, which are known for their beautiful shallow underwater scenes, and want to be spontaneous, you can always find small operators that offer trips to nearby snorkeling spots.

WATERBOM

This modern water world with myriad slides and many other attractions is located on a 3.5-hectare area of land in the heart of Kuta, just in front of Bali Discovery Mall. Here you can pump your adrenaline up to the max on the CLIMAX or just be a lazy sunbather by the pool or float around in the winding pool. ‘Splash Band’, Waterbom’s cashless payment system, applies all over the park for guest’s convenience, and I found it very convenient indeed. So whenever and wherever a transaction is made the cashier simply scans the credit information on the Splash Band. When it is time to go, the credit is redeemable, so there is no problem in topping up as much as you want.

Experience a phenomenal ride on the only Boomerang in Southeast Asia, and take a spin the Superbowl. If that’s not enough of a thrill, hop on the highest and fastest ride, 25m up in the air and with a ground speed of up to 70km/h. It’s called the ‘Smashdown’ – and for good reason! And as for the Boogie Ride? It’s another fast-paced ride, best ridden with a friend since it has two lines side-by side, and is also pretty hair-raising. There are exciting facilities for children who do not yet meet the minimum height standard applied for certain rides. There are slides, twisting rides, a water cannon, and a gigantic bucket that pours water every few minutes – all in a well-supervised area.
