Sling Bar

Sling Bar, found on the mezzanine above the opulent Plantation Grill at Double-Six Hotel, Seminyak, is truly a hidden gem. It holds an ambience and class that has long been forgotten in this modern age, an old charm that pays homage to days long gone…

I want to take you back 90 years, back to 1920’s America. The men were dressed in vests, jackets, bowties and bowler hats, their feet sporting black wingtips; the women, in their elegant black cocktail dresses covered over by large fur coats and stockings below. Needless to say, it was time not of glitz and glamour, but rather of poise and good deportment. To be a ‘gentleman’ or ‘lady’, in the most classical sense, was commonplace.

This very feeling has been revived and brought back to life at Double-Six’s Sling Bar. Enter through Plantation Grill, the adjoining restaurant, where instantly you will feel as if you have stepped back into an old club in the 1920’s. The floor is classically tiled, the seats are plush and covered in black leather, and the wooden fixtures are dark-dyed and finely polished. As you head upstairs to Sling, the ambience is similar, with a long stretching bar on your left and a fully stocked, vintage drinks cabinet on your right. Spreading round towards the back, a drawing room and private boudoir-esque areas await groups of friends in need of a drink.

Sling Bar is by no means pretentious. Despite its rich fittings and surroundings, it is very simply a fantastic place to drink. The smartly dressed – and hugely knowledgeable- bartenders serve up some amazing concoctions. The range is huge – men, if you’d like to channel your inner Don Draper I would suggest indulging in one of their variations of the ‘Old Fashioned’; ladies, a fitting drink would be any of the Martinis on show, you won’t be disappointed.

Sat high on the fourth floor of Double-Six Hotel, tucked up on the mezzanine with the warm lights turned down low, it’s as if the bar was actually made to keep patrons hidden from Prohibition Agents of the 1920’s Volstead Act. Now that you know about this secret little nook, you have to experience it for yourself; this cosy-yet-classy drinking den is open from 6pm to 2am, perfect for pre or post dinner refreshments.
