The temptations of shopping are all over the island. There is just about every kind of shop available from top designers to local handicrafts. But we think you might be interested to spend your money and help people at the same time. You do don’t you!

Here’s three ways you can do that.

The temptations of shopping are all over the island. There is just about every kind of shop available from top designers to local handicrafts. But we think you might be interested to spend your money and help people at the same time. You do don’t you!

Here’s three ways you can do that.

Yayasan Kasih Peduli Anak

YKPA was established to help the under educated, disabled, and poor children from the streets to get  a better living than the harsh reality that awaits them on every corner in Kuta and Denpasar. They are working to support the organisation through various means including selling dolls made by the children.

To contact YKPA visit them in

Jl. Gn. Payung no 2, Br Umadui, Denpasar, or call them at +62-813 37411 112 and +62-361 8037 322. More info can be obtained at care4child@ykpa.org and www.ykpa.org

Muntigunung Social Community Enterprise

The community in Muntigunung, North East Bali produces and sells various products made by local villagers through the Muntigunung Development and Livelihood Programs from Yayasan Dian Desa. The proceeds from produces like Rosella tea and cashew nuts goes to fund the Future for Children program that develops water supplies for the extremely impoverished villages and provides a  livelihood for children in the poverty stricken Muntigunung area.

Muntigunung Social Community Enterprise can be reached at  +62 -821 4571 0084

Yayasan Senang Hati

(Senang Hati Foundation)

Students at Yayasan Senang Hati receive various trainings in art and craftsmanship that help them to live life to the fullest. They also take international orders of fashion accessories on regular basis. Some of the students’ art crafts can be bought at the Foundation’s art gallery. Learn more about their products at www.senanghati.org, or send email to yayasansenanghati@yahoo.com. However the best way to reach the Foundation is to visit the site in Jl. Sasi Brata, Br. Kawan Tengah, Tampaksiring, Gianyar.

There are also charity shops in Ubud which directly support their causes. Look for the signs which clearly designate their charitable status. Among those worthy of support are: The Smile Shop (supporting cleft palatte operations), BARC (supporting abandoned dogs) and The Charity Shop, all in central Ubud.
