There is nothing better than combining the beauty of Bali’s wet season with the retreat into some of Bali’s best spa sanctuaries to emerge refreshed and ready for the Christmas and New Year Season of social highlights and beach escapes to the nearby Gili Islands.

Soliel Medi Spa, located on the second floor of the Discovery Plaza, is the first stop for rejuvenation. Their non-invasive laser treatments, relaxers and fillers are delivered by qualified staff in discreet and relaxing surroundings. They also offer corrective treatments such as tattoo removal and laser peels that can be taken over a few sessions to achieve the desired results. Soliel treatments are not surgical and there is a limited recovery time to most treatments which make it perfect for a vacation, and while sun exposure is not recommended during the course of treatment, Bali in December has so much more than just the sun to enjoy.

W Hotels Away Spa offers a full twenty-four hours of spa treatments. Glamorous spa treatment rooms using oxygen and steam facials add up to total indulgence when combined with the spa menu offerings that follow the indulgent theme with names like “Serene and Soulful,” “Glamour and Glitz” or “Fit and Fabulous”. There is also a special Balinese themed treatment called “Sssh,” which consists of exquisite therapies exclusive to Away Spa and imparted in the most soul soothing and comforting atmosphere imaginable anywhere. Find out more about traditional Balinese arts in a Warrior Floor Exercise session that includes elements of the martial art Silat. For a total body workout, one in which you actually don’t have to do much, try the Zen Balance Treatment. It uses warmed bamboo to relax and stretch the body in a style that is also martial arts inspired. The AWAY Spa at the W is the perfect solution to any wet weather day, turning the blues into bliss.

The stunning Kriya Spa at the Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua is another top spa destination, and a day of confinement within their beautifully designed walls spent learning through receiving the art of ancient Ayurvedic healings is a wonderful way to ease into the relaxation of a vacation. The Bali Pijat Cokor treatment is another spa creation that uses a traditional Balinese approach, this time in the manipulation of the body through the therapist’s feet. If that sounds a little challenging, try the Harmony massage, with long and rolling strokes this massage gently unwinds the body, mind and the soul as it gently eases stress away from all levels of mental consciousness and physical tensions. The Kriya Spa treatments include luscious ingredients such as fresh papaya, natural sea salts, sweet vanilla and crushed coffee. For rainy days the Katee Basti is a wonderful warming treatment that centers on the back and the spine by placing warm oil filled dough in tiny volcanoes all along the spine.

Bruised wet season sunset skies are stunning at this time of year and getting up onto the roof top of Anantara, Seminyak is a great place to celebrate the ending of one day and the coming of night. Emerge from the Anantara Spa after an intensely indulgent three hour Sensual Spice Odyssey that offers four complimentary treatments based on the romance of the Spice Islands. Lose yourself for the afternoon into the dreamy aromas of ginger and sweet flowers, emerge energized and revitalized. Anantara has a very good Thai-style herbal compress massage that will give tired bodies a boost, especially if you feel a little run down or affected by the experience of flying into Bali after a long working week. Make a point of booking yourself, or visiting family and friends in almost as soon as they arrive and let Anantara deliver them a welcome to Bali they will never forget.

As the theme of this month’s issue is My Bali Favourites it is fitting to include three multidirectional escapes that are the gateway to bliss and beyond for the hardworking NOW! Bali spa team. These are the places that we get away to, places where we put our phones on silent and pretend that we are in highly crucial meetings and cannot be disturbed:

Not so far from Seminyak, but a world away, is the TUGU Hotel and its amazingly dreamy spa, if you are looking to enter a whole other world here is the door – step through, surrender and feel serene…The range of treatments here is varied and the delivery is authentic, our favourite is the Kamar Mantra, a truly spiritual experience that is different each time, mystical, mysterious and marvelous.

Ubud loves rain, and we love Ubud in the rain, gently heaving trees, the soft drip of rain onto leaves and the constant aroma of velvety forests. At the Maya Ubud you can suspend the day to day in their exquisitely indoor/ outdoor, skies to the river spa.  After one of their healing massages, there is nothing more pleasant than their bathing treatments, which slip you into the edge of the forest.

Ah yes, we can feel the need for a crucial planning meeting coming up… so we wish all our spa seekers a very pleasant season on the island and a spa-kling New Year…
