Nyepi, as many of us know, is Bali’s holy day of silence. A special day of self-reflection and meditation for the Balinese Hindu’s whereby none may roam the streets, work, make noise or turn on lights. It is an incredibly unique day here on the island that brings in the new moon and the start of the new Çaka calendar. Nyepi 2016 will take place on the 9th March 2016, commencing at 6am and ending at 6am on the 10th of March. Excitingly, this year’s Nyepi will fall on the same day as a total solar eclipse, and may just be Bali’s creepiest day ever.
So, from the evening of the 8th March after the spooky “Ngrupuk Parade” of Ogoh-Ogoh, handmade demonic statues symbolizing evil spirits, Bali will fall silent until the 10th. Restaurants and bars will close, roads will be deserted, and even the airport will shutdown. So, in order to meet the demands of those in need of food and entertainment on the island, many hotels (who remain active during Nyepi) have put together very special ‘Nyepi Staycation Packages’ for 2 nights (8-10 March). With five-star facilities, entertainment, food and a better rate then you’ll find all year round, Nyepi could be the best time to put your feet up in one of Bali’s best resorts. Here are some options:-
