The owners of Potato Head have several passions which they are beginning to unveil to a very receptive public.Their undoubted dedication to extraordinary design has already shown itself in their Jakarta and Bali properties, but this, it seems, is just the beginning!

One of their passions is art, another good food and the third excellent wines. Put this all together and what do you get? Tapping Shoes of course.Located on the second floor of their highly successful club complex on the beach at Seminyak, Tapping Shoes is a brand new, and very interesting addition to the fine dining scene in Bali. With French food and a Japanese chef this is abrave and enterprising concept that may just work.

But let’s go back to the owners others passions: art and wine! From the moment you get up to the top of the stairs the art is visible everywhere: eclectic, different, daring. Modern, dramatic and if Iam not mistaken, rather expensive paintings are all around. This is already a showcase for culture and we haven’t sat down yet. Next is the decor which is also art.Chandeliers hang from the ceiling. Lots of them. Maybe thirty. Sparkling, glistenng, flashing glassy reflections around the room.

So many that they become fun. Then there are the table cloths. Blue, striped, warm, not your average crisp whites. More like a designer’s salon than a restaurant.

Before I get to the food, I have to mention the service since indeed that comes first. Attractive, charming, friendly and knowledgeable, the young lady who served me knew her food, and explained it well. I was impressed for such a new restaurant and newly trained staff. Makes a real difference.

Food. Please see the menu below, I couldn’t have made it up. We are talking unique, fun, bold and fortunately well done! It could have gone wrong but it didn’t and my hat’s off to Chef Hikaru who delivered what he promised. This is the menu I enjoyed.

La Fringale, 6 courses Menu Dégustation, Rp1,100,000++

Surprise de Foie Gras, Sauterne wine and mango flavor served with pain d’Épices.

Homard Salad, Canadian lobster served with Taboulé, capsicum mousse, gaspacho sauce & balsamic reduction.

St Jacques au glaçage de Comté, Scallops with comtécheese flavor, beetroot and crustacean sauce.

Poisson du Jour, Catch of the day with Bergamot flavorand potato fondant.

Boeuf Tournedos, Port sauce served with legumes printaniers.

or

L’Agneau, Oven roasted lamb with mint flavor jus.(For two people)

or

Le Carnard, Roasted Barbarie Duck Breast, Cinnamon & star anis flavor jus served with celeriac mousse.

Dessert, Tapping Shoes special dessert.

Finally the wine... well this is a passion of mine too,and the list satisfies that to the fullest. The prices,as all over Bali, are silly, but the Government taxman takes most of that so what to do? Drink and sign of course.

I’m not sure about the name “ Tapping Shoes” … but from the people who made Potato Head a name to remember, who am I to criticize am! They know what they’re doing. So take art, food, wine and service and put it in one of Bali’s most popular clubs and what do you get? Well you’d better check it out if you want to know. I was certainly impressed.
