Haute Seminyak – Chez Gado Gado

Cradled in the scenic beachside area of Camplung Tanduk in Seminyak, this restaurant always refreshes my palate with cooling cocktails, intimate, elegant dinners and casual alfresco lunches flanked by ocean views and trailing sunsets. New grandiose restaurants have been proliferating around the island like rabbits. And even with the many fancy new joints especially around the haute Seminyak, old time player Chez Gado Gado is still bull-rushed by crowds of grateful neighborhood gastronomes. Of course, after over thirty years, this Seminyak institution has earned itself a long-standing culinary fame.

New grandiose restaurants have been proliferating around the island like rabbits. And even with the many fancy new joints especially around the haute Seminyak, old time player Chez Gado Gado is still bull-rushed by crowds of grateful neighborhood gastronomes. Of course, after over thirty years, this Seminyak institution has earned itself a long-standing culinary fame.

Whether I dine alfresco on the wooden deck or by candlelight under a blanket of stars, Gado Gado swaddles the palate with a taste of the ocean touched by the murmur of contented chatter. Great food with great ingredients is definitely key, but similar rules apply to the design of a restaurant; and at Gado Gado no expense has been spared to create a certain swanky look and romantic dreamy spaces. What I find unique about Gado Gado is how the ambiance changes with the sunset.

Certainly, the best ingredients and talented kitchen team behind Gado Gado’s artisan dishes help to convince me – and apparently plenty of other diners – that what I’m eating is actually very good. At Gado Gado, I can pamper myself with an array of dishes ranging from raw to seafood and meat to poultry – all prepared with finesse before being sent to my table. A vegan friend of mine was also more than satisfied after she gave Gado Gado’s vegetarian menu a try.

I simply love Gado Gado’s “Traditional Chicken Betutu”. But what I really urge you to try is the restaurant’s signature five-course set menu. Other items on the menu are primarily delectable pan-Mediterranean dishes. You can’t go wrong with the amazing seafood specialties, meat selections, or the restaurant’s perfected dessert menu as a sweet finale to end a memorable dining experience there. Speaking of dessert, you should definitely try Gado Gado’s 2002 classic chocolate melted cake with passion fruit and mango. Yum!

So whatever you’re having, the choices at Chez Gado Gado are sure to offer a feast!
