Jazz lovers, you have a new nirvana. In an era where volume is considered expression, the soulful rhythmic impact that is the very definition of jazz serves as a refreshing change of scenery. The 2nd annual BRI TOUCH Ubud Village Jazz festival will be held on the 8th and 9th of August, 2014, at ARMA Ubud, with a versatile list of performers that will make your music-loving heart sing. The acclaimed musicians include Indonesian prodigies such as Astrid Sulaiman, Balawan, Dwiki Dharmawan, Musicology, Shadow Puppets, Yuri Mahatma, and international musicians such as Gilad Hekselman. The Australian GAPP project will also showcase talents from around the world, including Endo Seiji (Japan), Erica Tucceri (Australia), Alexandre Cunha (Brazil) and Ben Van Den (Holland). The festival will also introduce an interesting collaboration between German duo Uwe Plath and Dian Pratiwi and Czech soloist Ondrej Stveracek.

The timing of the event contributes to its theme: ‘Awakening Indonesia’ pays a tribute to the Indonesian Independence Day celebrations by showcasing the young, raw talents possessed by the new voices of Indonesia, who are, in the words of Festival Director Anom Darsana, “the key to the development and future existence of Jazz in Indonesia.” The festival serves as a fantastic networking opportunity for international and local jazz musicians and enthusiasts, and also serves as a platform for emerging as well as established talents.

This year, the festival partners with The Jazz Summer School in Korea-Netherlands as an effort to promote Jazz learning in Indonesia. The Bali Jazz Summer School will be held over five days before the festival and offers the options of learning guitar, drums, piano, double bass, brass and reed instruments and vocal. They will be mentored and tutored by Rotterdam-based professionals who will also perform in the festival.

The festival is an amazing experience to look forward to post-summer, and provides a refreshing insight into the ever expanding world of jazz.!
