2nd Annual Asia Spelling Cup

It was an exciting day at the 2nd annual Asia Spelling Cup, held at the Grand Nikko Hotel. From over 100,000 online and mobile participants from four countries, the finalists were narrowed down to 26. There were 6 finalists from China, 9 from Indonesia, and 8 from Malaysia who participated. Hu Zi Yue from China won the primary school section, while Samuel Tang from Bandung, Indonesia won the secondary school section. The first prize winners in the primary and secondary schools categories each received a prize of USD 3,000.

For the primary school section, Ashvinaa Balachandran of Malaysia won second place, while Malaysia’s Kenneth Wu, the first place winner of last year’s Asia Spelling Cup, placed second, winning USD 2,000. The third place winners were Sarah Anisha for the primary schools section and Michael Navaratnam for the secondary schools section. These winners, both from Malaysia, each won USD 1,000. For the primary school section, 4th place and 5th place finishers won Apple iPad minis, while the 6th place finisher won a Samsung tablet.

The Asia Spelling Cup has had contestants from four countries and is expected to expand to include contestants from six more countries in 2015.!
